The old Globe Theatre Green Shows were free shows held on the green surrounding the Globe Theatre. They were usually in the form of a short play but also included song and dance. The actors who took part in the green show then went on to act in the main plays held inside the Globe Theatre. The green shows were the Elizabethan equivalent of a modern warm-up act for the main performance. Some green shows were parodies of the play it was that was to be performed by the troupe. The Globe Theatre Green shows would have starred Globe Theatre actors such as the dancer and comedian Will Kempe to set the tone and mood of the Globe Theatre audience. The Green shows also included short previews, or parodies, of popular or new plays which the owners were hoping to produce at a later date - another form of Elizabethan advertising.
